Description The ceremonial killing of pigs in the Shepherd Is. was a matter of strict and precise protocol. The carcass of the pig was cut up according to fixed and exact procedure and the various cuts distributed in conformity with closely determined hierarchical precedence. Departure from the set pattern could be an insult with grave consequences. In this recording, the procedure is described. At the time of the recording, a pig was cut up in the prescribed way and photographs taken. The intention is that the visual material will be attached to the audio archive at some future time. Description These files were created by Chamorro community members in the CNMI who were asked to provide sentence examples of the usage of some block of words from the 1975 Chamorro-English Dictionary. Some files are scanned (.pdf) versions of hard-copy submissions; other submissions are in Word (.docx) format. The plain text submissions are in SIL's Toolbox format. The files are organized by year of submission (as indicated by 2008, 2009, or 2010 in the filename). None of the submissions have been edited or processed in any way. The Dictionary editors, who are Dr. Elizabeth D. Rechebei, Manuel F. Borja, and Tita A. Hocog, also plan to archive the final revised, edited version of the work, so that future generations will be able to consult it.. Language as given:
